1978 - 1979 Ford Bronco
Front Dual Shock Kit
Installation Instructions
Part # DS270
Installation:
1. Park the vehicle on flat level ground, set the emergency brake, & block the rear tires / wheels.
2. Raise the front driver side of the vehicle & remove the tire / wheel. The illustration below is the view of the driver side.
On the driver side, place the upper bracket against the coil spring tower as shown being sure to weld the entire
length of the seam between the spring tower & bracket.
3. Loosely install the bottom bracket (B) to the lower shock eye (longer shock) & extend the shock. Mark the position for
the lower bracket on the ridge of the radius arm bracket.
4. Remove the lower bracket from the shock & weld on at the marked position. Note: BE SURE NOT TO MELT THE
AXLE BUSHINGS THAT ARE LOCATED ON THE RADIUS ARM. WATER MAY BE NEEDED TO COOL THE AREA.
Be sure to paint all areas that were welded to avoid rusting.
5. Mount the shock to the lower bracket. Note: There are two holes located in the upper bracket (A). Depending on the
amount of lift & the shock travel, you may need to depict which hole is used.
6. Passenger Side: Install bracket (A) to the frame as the stock bracket is mounted to the frame on the Driver Side &
weld. Position bracket (B) on top of the radius arm as located on the Driver Side & weld. Install the shock.
7. Once all shocks are installed, check all components for proper clearance. Retorque all hardware after the first 100
miles & periodically there after.
Seat Belts Save Lives, Please Wear Your Seat Belt.
I-DS270 REV1 3-11
Note: From the factory, all 78-79 Bronco’s have a long shock on the Driver Side, in the front of the
coil spring & use a shorter shock on the passenger side behind the coil spring. This is known as
“staggered” shocks. Therefore, the additional shocks needed for this installation require that one
shock is shorter than the other. When mounting the dual shocks to the brackets, you will need to
stagger the shocks on the opposite sides of the OEM shocks, using the shorter shock for the drivers
side & vice versa.
